JCraft’s low-wake boat design is steeped in history, tracing back to the prohibition era in the USA and Canada. These boats were ingeniously crafted with a low profile and minimal wake, allowing rum-runners to navigate rivers and lakes discreetly during the night. Their design facilitated the smuggling of various illegal items, showcasing a blend of engineering and necessity that emerged from a unique historical context.

In the early 1960s, John Jones, a cabinet maker from England, traveled to California. He had a passion for 'things that float,' and one day he encountered a wood-crafted flat-bottom hotrod. Excited by the craftsmanship, he asked the owner if he could take a ride. The owner agreed, and the experience prompted John to relocate to Canada, where he established JCraft. The rest, as they say, is history…

1970s, 80s & 90s

J-Craft grew a reputation in the waterskiing community during the 70s, 80s and 90s. The design epitomized the classic California ski boat, which was not only visually appealing but also reflected the adventurous spirit of the era. JCraft boats became the preferred choice for water-skiers who valued speed, precision, and low-wake as well as for slalom racers needing reliable and agile pullers. Their blend of high performance, stability and family-friendliness made them a staple among enthusiasts fostering a loyal following.

The brand had a resurgence in 2018 which marked a pivotal moment in its history. The company was able to leverage new resources and innovative strategies with an infusion of modern technology while retaining the brand's heritage, catering to both nostalgia and contemporary demands.
